Are you one of the people who dislike the stock ear buds that comes with your mp3 player? Let's face it, the pair of earbuds provided with current selection of mp3 players are sub-par. They leave much room for improvement.

So the factory shipped earphones are usually replaced because their is in sore need of improvement. Good news! There are better ear buds on the market. You have a choice to replace the stock earbuds with better ones, but that involves doing research on your part. Usually that is an disadvantage because perhaps you don't have the time or there's overwhelming amount of information on the internet that it's hard to make a decision.

There is a long history behind the noise blocking technology Noise canceling headphone was invented for aircraft pilots. They were developed to ease the sound level emanating from aircraft engines and improve concentration. Eventually this technology was commercialized for the passengers who had trouble sleeping or relaxing on the flight, due to the loud engines.

The theory behind noise canceling is that the ear phones emits a constant low frequency that cancel out outside noise sources. Higher frequency and some noises, like peoples' voices, are not blocked, but they're not as intrusive and likely won't interrupt your listening experience. Since the noise blocking in-ear buds use the same principle as noise cancelling headphone, There isn't much difference between the two.
