Phonetic Alphabet Ebook Quiz
This is a fun way to improve your ability to:
1. Communicate clearly.
2. Improve speech-recognition software performance.
3. Impress your friends and colleagues with your professionalism.
You hear: “Alpha Bravo Charlie” and know it comes from a spelling alphabet list. The ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) spelling alphabet, also known as the NATO phonetic alphabet or international radiotelephony spelling alphabet, is the most popular. It is frequently referred to as "the phonetic alphabet" but spelling alphabets are different from phonetic transcription systems like the International Phonetic Alphabet.
Speech Recognition Software
The ICAO Spelling Alphabet is very useful when using your speech recognition software "spell it" feature. The program does not always understand your letter pronunciation but will react correctly to the phonetic alphabet very easily. You can input a word it fails to recognize quickly.
Suppose you say "antic" and the voice recognition software responds with "frantic" or "ranting". Instruct it to "spell it" and then say quickly: Alpha November India Tango Charlie. It never fails to get what you mean.
Telephone or Radio
The ICAO alphabet enables pronunciation and understanding by anyone transmitting and receiving voice messages by radio or telephone whatever their own language. This increases safety especially when lives might be endangered due to transmission static. It is used by police, armed forces, pilots and anyone such as car dealers who need to communicate license plate numbers accurately over the phone.
Practice the list and in no time you will sound very professional.
The Phonetic Alphabet Quiz
You are given a choice of three answers to each question. Click on the correct answer. If you get it wrong you return to the beginning. You have to learn the history to progress. You can cheat by using the forward buttons but your challenge is to learn the phonetic alphabet.

Noise cancelling earbuds and your health
If you are looking for or using noise cancelling earbuds it is important to consider health issues. In the following article you can read and learn how earbuds need to be used to protect hearing. Noise can be damaging and eliminating uneccessary sound can be worth some thought.
Earbuds are an excellent tool for experiencing a great listening environment while using your favorite portable media device. With the right set, earbuds can give you a near studio quality sound without the hassle and conspicuousness of a huge set of traditional earphones. Having high quality, balanced sound is very important for a good listening experience, but maintaining good hearing is infinitely more important in the long run.
Here are some good tips to avoid damaging your inner ear material so you can keep on listening to your favorite music, videos, and games.
Lower the volume on your portable media device. It might take some getting used to, but this simple fix goes a long way in protecting your overall hearing ability.
If you have a volume limiter on your device, keep it activated. This way when those higher volume sounds start to hit your eardrums won't take a beating.
Take periodic breaks. Just like your eyes while viewing a computer screen over long periods of work, your ears can become fatigued. Give yourself a five-minute break for every hour of listening.
Use your earbuds as a listening device, not as a method for blocking out the rest of your environment. This might be tempting, but earbuds are made for listening to sound, not for blocking it out. So if your using your earbuds to block out your environment, the tendency is to blast the volume way up. This is most definitely damaging to your delicate inner ear structures.
Get yourself a good set of sound isolating or noise-canceling earbuds. If your intent is to block out exterior noises, then using this type of earbud is much easier on your ears. You can achieve the same perception of volume as that of a regular set, but without the actual high volume settings. This way you can listen to music at what feels like high volume without actually damaging those invaluable ears of yours.
So be kind to your ears. If you want to go on enjoying your favorite music, videos, and games, why would you want to destroy one of the most important organs of your body responsible for providing you with that experience? Take care of those ears and be sure to keep in mind these best practices and others you may pick up along the way to protect your ear health.

Noise canceling earbuds guide
This guide on noise canceling earbuds will appeal to all those who use them to listen to music and are not satisfied with the ones that came with your mp3 player.
Stu Leblanc
Are you one of the people who dislike the stock ear buds that comes with your mp3 player? Let's face it, the pair of earbuds provided with current selection of mp3 players are sub-par. They leave much room for improvement.
So the factory shipped earphones are usually replaced because their is in sore need of improvement. Good news! There are better ear buds on the market. You have a choice to replace the stock earbuds with better ones, but that involves doing research on your part. Usually that is an disadvantage because perhaps you don't have the time or there's overwhelming amount of information on the internet that it's hard to make a decision.
There is a long history behind the noise blocking technology Noise canceling headphone was invented for aircraft pilots. They were developed to ease the sound level emanating from aircraft engines and improve concentration. Eventually this technology was commercialized for the passengers who had trouble sleeping or relaxing on the flight, due to the loud engines.
The theory behind noise canceling is that the ear phones emits a constant low frequency that cancel out outside noise sources. Higher frequency and some noises, like peoples' voices, are not blocked, but they're not as intrusive and likely won't interrupt your listening experience. Since the noise blocking in-ear buds use the same principle as noise cancelling headphone, There isn't much difference between the two.
If you are interested in isolating yourself from everyday noise or to relax on a commerical flight, you might just need a pair of noise canceling earbuds.
Stu Leblanc enjoys listening to music while on the move. He uses noise blocking earbuds with his iPhone and maintains a website about noise canceling earbuds.

Upgrade complimentary earbuds
Not everyone is pleased with the earbuds that came with their ipod or other Mp3 player so here is some advice on what to do.
Jeffrey Meier
I recently opened my cute little iPod package to find my cute little complimentary earbuds. While everything was gooshing with cuteness, I couldn't help but feel cheated when, after downloading my music and plugging in my little "buds," the music coming from my iPod sounded sub-par.
It's hard to justify spending money on these devices, whether they are the iPod or another MP3 player when you never get the full package. I understand that you can always upgrade your own headphones during the purchasing process, but when has it ever been against the rules to simply get more for your money?
The earbuds that came with my device are about as "high-quality" as those you receive on your Air Tran flight - you know where they give you a cute little set to enjoy their XM Radio service during the flight. They're great company when in mid-air, especially if you want to tune out the people around you. But try plugging those babies into your stereo at home. It's like listening to a crackling phonograph machine - no good!
To begin to combat the problem of complimentary earbuds, I've compiled a short list of features I would love to see with those that come with future devices:
o Noise Cancellation - I'm sure you've heard of these great headphones by now. They are extremely popular with music lovers because they provide a very crisp, clean sound quality as a result of new technology that cancels out ambient (acoustic) noises near the speaker inside the earpiece. As a result, you can hear the subtleties of the music much better. And even more, you don't have to turn up the music as loudly to hear these subtleties. Just imagine how nice it would be to get a pair of noise canceling earbuds as a complimentary gift with your MP3 player - nice!
o Wireless - This is another feature for headphones and buds that is becoming all the rage for music lovers - largely due to Bluetooth technology. I'm sure you're well aware of the effects Bluetooth has had on society. You can't walk down the street without someone talking on their wireless earpiece. And since the creation of wireless headphones, people are walking around freely while listening to music from their portable device. Getting a complimentary set of in-ear buds would be a great way to really enjoy the new device.
As I look over my short list, I understand that I may be asking too much. I mean, some models of these types of headphones can cost as much as a new portable device itself. But that's only some models; not all. And keep in mind, there are brands of what we might consider "regular" headsets that put out a much better quality than the complimentary sets and probably would cost the company only pennies more than what they spend now.
But again, what do I know? I'm just a regular person wishing I'd bought my own upgraded earbuds or headphones before having to settle for the ones I have. Maybe in time, pleas like mine will be heard and companies will realize that the earbuds that people listen to music through are just as important as the music itself. Until that day, I guess I'll listen to the muffled sounds of my favorite song.

Earbuds for improved listening
If you are a music enthusiast and want to know how to use noise canceling earbuds this article is for you.
Joel Henderson
With so many peripherals and add-ons available on the market for digital music players, it's easy to quickly become overloaded with options for expanding your player's capabilities. The first thing on the list for most people after purchasing a new player is to dispose of the standard earbuds and upgrade to a higher quality set. If you're looking to upgrade from standard earbuds, you'll be faced with a competitive market with a plethora of manufacturers all vying for your hard earned cash. Here are some things to keep in mind to help you narrow down your search.
Do you wan't maximum noise isolation or noise canceling ability? They may be a bit more expensive than more standard earbuds, but if you spend time on public transit or other noisy environments, the benefits of noise canceling earbuds may be worth the expense. Noise canceling works by using perceptibly lower noise to cancel out unwanted ambient sounds. This process requires more power, so you may be required to recharge your digital player more often.
Noise canceling works well for unwanted constant sounds, but it doesn't work for intermittent stuff like construction noise or honking automobile horns. Noise isolation is what you want for these types of ambient noises. Noise isolating earbuds fit in your ear snuggly so that the buds themselves press comfortably against the walls of your ear canals. This also helps with greater bass response, producing a much more realistic listening experience. It's also become industry standard to ship these earbuds with more than one set of soft tips, this way earbuds can be adjusted to the needs of the user.
One of the most important benefits of in-ear noise isolating earbuds is that less actual volume is necessary to actually achieve a perceptibly higher sound. This protects your inner ears from damage since in actuality the sound on your digital player will be turned down low, but it will seem as if the volume is actually turned way up.
One aspect of earbud selection that most people overlook is the connector tip. First of all, the metal used for constructing the connector tip plays a factor in sound quality. Gold plated is best, as it provides better transfer between the digital player and the wiring within the earbud cable. Also, think about the direction in which the connector is situated. There are "L" shaped connectors with the wiring coming from the connector at a right angle, or the other option is the type with the wiring coming straight out of the connector. An "L" shaped connector may cause you some inconvenience depending on the digital player you are using.
With a quality set of earbuds you can get close to studio quality sound without the need for a bulky, conspicuous set of standard headphones. Balanced sound is very important for maintaining an optimal listening environment, so keep all these things in mind when purchasing a new set of earbuds.

External Noise Canceling Earbuds
If you are bothered with external noise this handy article will explain what to do with noise canceling earbuds.
Norman Burr
Nothing is worse than external noise affecting your listening experience. The problem with maxing out the volume on your earphones to drown out external sound is that it can damage your hearing and cause ringing in your ears. For the best listening experience, you should use noise canceling earbuds. Noise canceling earbuds block ambient noise so you can focus on the music at hand without having to raise the volume.
Whether you're a music enthusiast on the go or a frequent flyer that wants undisturbed sound while flying, noise canceling earbuds are the perfect solution. It uses a technology called active noise control (ANC) which cuts of lower frequency sound so only the higher frequency sound can be heard. These buds extend out from your ears and fit snug, blocking the opening to your ears. They are incredibly small so you won't feel burdened by wearing them any more than you'd be while wearing a regular earphone.
The best idea is to get a pair of these earbuds that have ANC and noise isolation. Noise isolation are ear buds that fit extra snug in your ears so no external sound can get in. You have to remember to purchase a set that has both as some earbuds have one or the other. Earbuds that have both can block out sounds like bus engines and car honking more effectively.
Now let's take a look at some of the top companies that manufacture these earbuds as well as the popular models to see which one is the best buy. The most popular brand names for noise canceling earbuds are Sony and Audio-Technica. The Sony DMRNC22 comes with 13.5mm drivers for improved sound quality, a compact battery box, and a switch so you can quickly turn it on or off.
These earbuds require one triple-A battery and a hard-plastic piece that is designed to minimize external sound. You can listen to your music without hearing much outside noise even at low volume levels. This model is a great value because it is cheaper than other brands like Bose and Shure where you'd to spend a couple of hundred bucks. A pair of these ear buds will set you back less than $100. The only complaint is that the hard plastic piece presses into the ears for some people and can be painful. The best way to solve this problem is to purchase a foam piece separately.
Another popular model is the ATH ANC3BK by Audio-Technica. Like the Sony model before, it comes with a switch where you can control the power and ANC mode. It comes with a nice case, 1 triple-A battery, and an extended adapter. Consumers have reported overwhelmingly positive reviews for this model. There are a small minority that felt these buds didn't do a good enough job in blocking out external sound. The good thing about this model is that it comes with 4 buds of different sizes to adjust to your ears comfortably.
Other companies that are popular are Bose and Shure. Their products are in the higher price range. Some people debate whether the price justifies the quality compared to other models. Whichever model and company you choose, start out by going through online reviews and see what people have rated high. Then check out how comfortable it would be as some earbuds can be painful to wear. After spending some time on research, you should be able to find the best noise canceling earbuds that's right for you.
